International Women's Day Email - March 2022

Updated: Apr 10, 2022

Hello Neighbors & Friends,

How did you commemorate International Women’s Day? One of the things we love about Ward 3 are the strong, inspiring women who live and work here.

As Sue has talked with folks across the Ward, she’s been thrilled to get to know women who are teachers and educators, a former commission of our state’s energy office, owners of small businesses, nonprofit leaders, researchers, community leaders, healthcare workers, scientists, full-time caregivers, rabbis, school principles, and more.

Are you excited to elect a strong woman who gets things done? Sign up here to volunteer on Sue’s campaign or click here to donate! Excited to show your support for Sue? You can fill out this short form to join many of your neighbors in endorsing Sue!

Please forward this email to your friends and neighbors and encourage them to be involved! And follow on social media on Facebookand Twitter.

News Across the Ward:

Responding to Hate on Camp Street:

Two weeks ago, Nazis protested loudly in our community outside of the Red Ink Library on Camp Street. I want to be clear: I stand firmly against Nazis and all hate groups. Hate has no place in Ward 3 or anywhere in Rhode Island.

I am focused on preventing future acts of aggression by Nazis and White Supremacists - not merely responding if it happens again. After I attended Councilwoman LaFortune’s community meeting about the incident, I followed up with the RI Commission on Prejudice and Bias.

If you see anything in the community that you think is related to a potential hate crime, you can report it anytime with the Commission or with the RI Attorney General’s Office. If you feel unable to do so, please reach out any time, and I can assist.

Ward Boundaries:

ICYMI: The City has been undergoing a process to evaluate and redefine the boundaries of the 15 City Council wards. The Ward Boundary Committee submitted its final map recommendation to the City Council. Council will discuss it in a meeting on Monday, March 14 at 4:30pm - and will be scheduling a time for a public hearing where residents will be able to weigh in. Check out the map here: https://council.providenceri.gov/ward-boundaries/

There are some changes proposed for Ward 3. If you are interested in seeing the conversation that took place at the last Ward Boundary Committee meeting, which included discussion of the Ward 3 changes, you can watch that meeting here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqdBEQSh5wE

Sue is a voracious reader. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, she is reading The Chancellor about Angela Merkel’s life and career. It was recommended to her by Ward 3 neighbor Judy Plotz. Do you have a recommendation for a book Sue should be reading? Send it to AnderBois.Ward3@gmail.com

Thank you!
